Jiayuguan and Dunhuang

Okay, now i have been to Jiayuguan and Dunhuang, very intresting places that lies very close to the Gobi Desert. Jiayuguan is famous because they have the start of the Great Wall. When I arrived to Jiayuguan was it a nice taxidriver that told me all the things that I could do there. He said that he could drive me around for 50 kui to all the places that he thought was interesting. It started well, but after I had been to two places I started to be suspicious. Because it was quite far between all places and usual taking a taxi for a half day is not so cheap, but I also thought that it doesn’t matter, If he say one price I will pay it. When I came to pay he wanted 150 kui, and he hadn’t been so nice in the end. Because he just went from attraction to attraction and didn’t gave me so much time that I wanted/needed. He claimed that he had said that every attraction costed 50 kui (three attraction), altought I know he didn’t say it. He also said that he showed me the prices (stupid as! I said that I could speak a little and he think I can read a brochure. The reading is the hard thing in chinese). Well I told him that we had a problem, because I cant pay so much, but I was willing to give him 80 kui. Witch was 30 kui more than I expected, NO! I want at least 120 kui he said . Sitting in the taxi for ten minutes I said that I can give him 100, because its in the middle (although I still thought it was his mistake) and that I would not give him one kui more. He didn’t agree, so I just went leaving 100 kui and having him shouting “FUCK YOU”. Shit, a man in his 40´s screaming that, something wrong… Although I first wanted to go and tell him that if it was another day I would have beating him up I was satisfied by cursing back to him, in chinese of course : ). But still I have some great photos and it was a quite good day. And somehow I can blame myself, I know that I shouldn’t trust the taxidrivers standing at air/train station, and I still did it. Actual the taxi drivers in china are the worst kind of people.

Jiayuguan Day 1

I decide that from now never use taxi (and if I will never be nice to the drivers if they start to mess with me) if it’s not totally necessary. Day number two I didn’t had so much plans, just buy a train ticket to Dunhuang. I meet a girl at the hotel that wanted to take me to her hometown because they had some sighseen places. Okay I said, and it was the best thing I have done. I can bet that not many foreigners have been there and I also found some grottos that were really old. Really great! I also meet some Chinese guys that I lifted home with, and we ended up eating and drinking some beer. Really nice guys!, and I needed that after the horrible taxi driver.

Jiayuguan Day 2

After been a little hangover and spending a day doing nothing I was off to Dunhuang.
And it was a interesting trip. Because it was only a 6 hour journey I decided to take a cheaper ticket and sitting all the way. On the train was a great mix of different people. But the most exceptional where a bunch of Xinjiang people, there really wasn’t similar to (han)Chinese. One guy was talking nonstop for about 3 hours, sitting on a table and making jokes all over again. Probobly really amusing if it wasn’t 04.00 when he started and the fact that I could only understand one or two words.. (they have a very different language compared to Chinese (Putonghua). But my neighbor managed to fall a sleep. He was lying on my shoulder and snorvlingme and my “friend”, and in the background I had some music (not so good one, Arabic, Xinjiang or other place where they don’t have good music). After about half of the trip a policeman came and asked for passports (me and the Xinjiang people), but I explained to him it was to much trouble to take it from my bag and asked if my student ID was okay, it was : ). This is probably the oddest journey I have done and really an experience.

After arriving to Dunhuang I went for a afternoon sightseen trip. Visiting the GOBI DESERT!!!! Great, walking on endless sand dunes (okay they are ending, but my point is that they are big) and riding a camel. Nice!!

Dunhaung Day 1

Today I went to the famous Gogao grottos. Payed and looked at three big buddhas, amazing big, but no photos allowed so I can´t give you any proof that they where big. 28 meters I think they said they where. One was sleeping two where awake. Not very intresting but okay.
I also tried to go to Qinghai province, but I am only allowed go to Golmud and Xining. I will check this up better when I come to Xining(I heard that I can buy a permit that allows me to travel to other places, but I will see.). The most importing thing is take me to Jiuzhaigou(nature reserv).

Day before...

So tomorrow its christmas! Wieeee... or ?

Well of course i miss my family but what to do about it ? Well my plan is to go for iceskating, and after that go with friends and have dinner :)

Not to bad, actual we have classes tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, wierd.. but i think i will go and iceskate and do some fun instead of sitting in a cold classrom and repeating grammer...

Yeah now its cold here, about 10 degrees... but its okay i have a heater in my room. But moste of the student dont have that, so wierd that they rather save 80 kui (88 kr) and then live with like 14 degrees in the room....

But i really like the weather her, it might have rained for like 8 days in total since i arrived..

Its not happend so much here, i have more focused on the upcoming marahton. And now its only 10 days left =) I just so tired of running now that i want to run it today..

There are many parks here in Xiamen city, and big ones, i think this is Zhongshan Park (Zhongshan is a guy that have a street named for him in every major city in china, dont really remember the history.. my history memory in my brain isnt so big.. sorry Börje (my grandfathar..)).

We where taking some photos from that day, a nice day with coffee, cake and nice weather (as usual in the middle of the day).
中山公园

So my plan for the next month is to:
24-25 Dec : Have Chrismtas (almost sober.. one beer cant destroy anything ?)
31 Dec: Have New Year (totaly sober)
2 Jan: Run Marathon
11-13 Jan: Final exams
14 Jan: Fly to Lanzhuo

For the people that dont know so much about Qinghai Province (Where i think i will spend two weeks) :
Its the fourth biggest prvince in China, and the province capital (and also the biggest) city is Xining with about 1.2 million inhabitans (veryveryery small to be a province capital).

The most inhabitans are tibetans, and no special permits are needed (i think.. ). In western countries we say the tibetian plattform is the roof of the world, but actual Qinghai also is a part of that, so the correct name should be Tibetian-Qinghai...

Its not so touristed and not very exploated bu turist as Tibet, therefor its can be little harder to get around if you dont speak any mandarin.. (well see about that...)

I well see more then i arrive there, but the climate is colder, -20 to -15 i heard it can be during night, so i hope that i have not forgett how to stand cold climate...

The landscape is told to be same as tibet so thats the main reason i go there, and also for meeting tibetian culture :)

I will also hope that i would not have any problem about the altidue.. the average in province is abouve 3000 m over the ocean.

MARRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY
Thank you Maria for posting:), and all other that do that.
And i also wish everybody that looks for work and "exjob" that they find a intresting one AND get it!

Christmas coming closer, how do you notice ?

Well, you can notice that the decoartion in stores have a xmas tree and that the employees at mcdonalds and kfc (i only buy coffee and icecream there, and yes, some days here you still want a icecream so you can cool yourself down. But not today... brrrrrrr) wearing xmas hats..

But usual you can feel it more, like breath the atmosphere, here in chine i cant get that feeling. Maybye its just because they actual dont cellibrate Xmas as we so they just dont have it. And there are not any snow or tempuratire below zero.

We will have classes on 24th and 25th.. i guess i will miss those classes, would not feel good to sitt in a classroom when you usual will be with youre brother and sister and maybe standing on the yard with lots of snow throwing little sister in the snow.... Maybye i can find a small chinese and throw he/her instead in the ocean (its not so cold that they would die.... ) hahaha....

So whats happend last week ? Not much actual, study and eating and running... Looking forward to run the Marathon, its just 16 days left! My shape is okay, i think so at least. But realy tired of running!!

Yesterday when i was running though campus they where playing music on the street, its never quite in china.

I think nowdays i spend too much time at my computer, just checking where im going during Chinese New Year. For intrested i made a map where i suppose to go:

My Plan

If somebody that reads this have any tips please tell me ! In Thailand im looking for some cheap and noncrowded place close to Bangkok with NICE beach.

Well, im going back to charachterwriting....

I almost forgott, our univesity arranged a trip to Tulou, which is old round buildings. Quite nice, and some pictures i also have from there !

Tulou
Take care!
