Day before...

So tomorrow its christmas! Wieeee... or ?

Well of course i miss my family but what to do about it ? Well my plan is to go for iceskating, and after that go with friends and have dinner :)

Not to bad, actual we have classes tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, wierd.. but i think i will go and iceskate and do some fun instead of sitting in a cold classrom and repeating grammer...

Yeah now its cold here, about 10 degrees... but its okay i have a heater in my room. But moste of the student dont have that, so wierd that they rather save 80 kui (88 kr) and then live with like 14 degrees in the room....

But i really like the weather her, it might have rained for like 8 days in total since i arrived..

Its not happend so much here, i have more focused on the upcoming marahton. And now its only 10 days left =) I just so tired of running now that i want to run it today..

There are many parks here in Xiamen city, and big ones, i think this is Zhongshan Park (Zhongshan is a guy that have a street named for him in every major city in china, dont really remember the history.. my history memory in my brain isnt so big.. sorry Börje (my grandfathar..)).

We where taking some photos from that day, a nice day with coffee, cake and nice weather (as usual in the middle of the day).
中山公园

So my plan for the next month is to:
24-25 Dec : Have Chrismtas (almost sober.. one beer cant destroy anything ?)
31 Dec: Have New Year (totaly sober)
2 Jan: Run Marathon
11-13 Jan: Final exams
14 Jan: Fly to Lanzhuo

For the people that dont know so much about Qinghai Province (Where i think i will spend two weeks) :
Its the fourth biggest prvince in China, and the province capital (and also the biggest) city is Xining with about 1.2 million inhabitans (veryveryery small to be a province capital).

The most inhabitans are tibetans, and no special permits are needed (i think.. ). In western countries we say the tibetian plattform is the roof of the world, but actual Qinghai also is a part of that, so the correct name should be Tibetian-Qinghai...

Its not so touristed and not very exploated bu turist as Tibet, therefor its can be little harder to get around if you dont speak any mandarin.. (well see about that...)

I well see more then i arrive there, but the climate is colder, -20 to -15 i heard it can be during night, so i hope that i have not forgett how to stand cold climate...

The landscape is told to be same as tibet so thats the main reason i go there, and also for meeting tibetian culture :)

I will also hope that i would not have any problem about the altidue.. the average in province is abouve 3000 m over the ocean.

MARRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY
Thank you Maria for posting:), and all other that do that.
And i also wish everybody that looks for work and "exjob" that they find a intresting one AND get it!

Christmas coming closer, how do you notice ?

Well, you can notice that the decoartion in stores have a xmas tree and that the employees at mcdonalds and kfc (i only buy coffee and icecream there, and yes, some days here you still want a icecream so you can cool yourself down. But not today... brrrrrrr) wearing xmas hats..

But usual you can feel it more, like breath the atmosphere, here in chine i cant get that feeling. Maybye its just because they actual dont cellibrate Xmas as we so they just dont have it. And there are not any snow or tempuratire below zero.

We will have classes on 24th and 25th.. i guess i will miss those classes, would not feel good to sitt in a classroom when you usual will be with youre brother and sister and maybe standing on the yard with lots of snow throwing little sister in the snow.... Maybye i can find a small chinese and throw he/her instead in the ocean (its not so cold that they would die.... ) hahaha....

So whats happend last week ? Not much actual, study and eating and running... Looking forward to run the Marathon, its just 16 days left! My shape is okay, i think so at least. But realy tired of running!!

Yesterday when i was running though campus they where playing music on the street, its never quite in china.

I think nowdays i spend too much time at my computer, just checking where im going during Chinese New Year. For intrested i made a map where i suppose to go:

My Plan

If somebody that reads this have any tips please tell me ! In Thailand im looking for some cheap and noncrowded place close to Bangkok with NICE beach.

Well, im going back to charachterwriting....

I almost forgott, our univesity arranged a trip to Tulou, which is old round buildings. Quite nice, and some pictures i also have from there !

Tulou
Take care!

Chinese Wedding and Farewelll Kevin

Sunday i went to a city nearby called Putian. This because there where a chinese wedding there that I was invited to. The wedding started little later then expected (as usual in China), we first visited the brides room (she wasnt supposed to leave the room for the hole day except of when she went around to all guest for saying thank you and giving away small gifts) and after that waited for the food. And waited we did, and food we got, loads! You guys can see that it was shitloads, and i tried them all :) The main thing on this wedding where the huge dinner, but i heard that there would be more traditional things afterwards but we had to leave due the fact that many that i went with had to work the day after...

Closer to Xmas

Christmas is getting closer, and I can say that it´s not easy to notice. No snow, no Christmassongs, nothing is red(except of the Chinese flag) and nobody talking about presents or the food...

I was sitting beside the lake at campus and drinking coffee and having a cake, just relaxing before the class would start. It was about 22 degrees and just that perfekt that we in sweden have the weather during the summer, but in the end of November..........

There where a competition at our University thes weekend, really amusing to watch. Different kind of sport activities like : 5000m,1500m,400,100 and so one. But the funnie thing was that it was all kinds of people that participated, all from very fit persons to fat people that running in jeans :)

It was really amusing to watch, and the chinese also thought that, so it was quite crowded. It seemed that sackjumping was the biggest event, close with some game where you where supposed to run 20m and then wait for the other competitor and then try to throw a ball and try to hit a waterbottle....

Strange but fun :)

Sunday I was spending the evening of watching a Kareoke competition when foriegners sang chinese songs and chinese where singing foriegner language. People where singing from swedish song (well, big big world.....) to opera. But the common thing for all chinese that where singing (except of emilia) where that it was love songs.....

So spending almost 3 hour of backstreetboys and alla other boyband you can imagine i was quite tired when going home and watching El Classico... (i know how it ended......)

unfortune i didnt bring my camera at the contest, but the final is this sunday so i might go there... If im craving to listning at moore love songs....

And i finaly made it to take some photos at our dining hall, but you guys should be aware of that this one is the less crowded we have at our university, and quees isnt existing! So in order to get some food you have to user youre elbow!

Photos is also from our picnic at the beachside with some friends

Fake Stone, walking backwards and jumping toghether

Okay, as you guys said i should write more about wierd things and so on. First i thought that mayby it would be very hard... NOT!!!!

Today after finishing classes me and a bunch of other people usual go on fridays to eat at a place (they serve good dumplings (jiaozi 饺子) and also good fried ones. Evertime we go to school we are passing a fontain (fontän, rätt på engelska) with some nice rocks inside. But it turned out that those are fake! Well what should i expect im in china right ? but common, making fakerocks ? Shit now im not sure if the trees are real anymore...

And today after i went out for a walk i saw a cute thing, one old man and a young women going backwards and having some kind of discussion... yeah they walked backwards ... it said its healthy..

I also saw a bunch of guys jumping rope (hoppa hopprep) toghether, it was 6 people jumping toughter and mayby 20 other that looking at them and cheering...

People that didnt knewed it i can tell for you guys that somethings in China is not possible (well it now so easy), like watching on youtube, updating this blog or drinking coffee... :)

But thanks to my parants i know can drink coffee at home without any problems, thanks :)

Dangerouse to take a shower

Okay, I heard many things that chinese says. And the latest one is that it is dangerouse to take a shower after you have done any physical excercise. I dont get it, how can it be dangerouse ?

One other thing that quite amusing is when the truck that washes the road come, it looks like they do it becuase they are hoping that the road will grow... My guess is it wouldnt, but who knows ? i have not tried...

i will try to be better of writing down strange things, not only whiskey, beer and food...

Ohh, the weather is like shit now, it have rained almost every day last week.. and it very cold (that what the chinese say when its about 17 deegrees.... ).

And I got a packet from sweden today, shitloads of coffee :)

Boat trip

Today a lady come in front of me and asked for money for a bus, i said to her that i dont have any money at the moment. But the funnie thing was that she had recently bbought a icecream to her kid at mcdonalds for 2.5 kui, and the busticket is 1 kui...

Back after a great weekend

The weekend was great, Friday i made some food for a bunch of people (like 9) and they enjoyed it. And the best thing is that it was only ten kui per person... So i will do that some more time, fun to be in a kitchen again, i actual miss that with my apartment, it doesnt have any kitchen...

Saturday we had a gathering with the class, whent to the beachside and had barbecue. Great food and beer, and the best part was that it was free. We got some money from school to arrange this, good to start knowing people outside the classroom also..

Still i have not been able to upload some photos because i could not find my camera. But we are lucky that we have a japanese girl in our class that take photos, so i will get them from here :)

So hopefulle tomorrow night i will have loads of photos to upload.

Free beer, icehockey and hot pot

Great weekend, went to a party where we had some tickets that gave us some free beer. Really nice! And alot of very seriouse people that had dressed up in Helloween costumes, nice to watch them, altought we didnt do it. Well i was dressing up as Yerking (big guy from Kazakstan) and he as a swede (me). So it was a great party altought that the bar actual was crapy, mostly the staff, but free beer makes everthing much better.....

Saturday me and some from the class helped our teacher to have a class in a bookstore. This for promoting some book, and for that we got free dinner. Really nice hotpot with loads of food, i think i eat for a whole week....

But today I had to bring my friends to go there, actual not so cheap, about 45 kui per person....:)

I also have been and played icehockey, belive it or not :) But Xiamen have everything! Okay, coffee is a problem here but....

I have not been good at updating my blog, and im not taking so much photos anymore, but i will start doing that better now. !!!!

I have some photos from the weekends party but i cant upload them now, but they will come.

Take care!

Dinner, school, lunch, run, sleep ....

I finaly started to get some rutines in my everday life... Nice, now I have some places where I can go without thinking so much:)

I actual thought that i started to understand the chinese people. Usual they are very nice to you as long that you are paying. Usual its not a problem, because like a foreigner you usual have money. But what happened if you bought a cellphone and it breaks, and you want them to repair it ? Well, if you pay them its not a problem, but as soon as you expect them to repair it for free because it actual a bad phone, what happened then?
Well nothing, you get nothing…
This was my opinion about Chinese… but shit.. then today I went to buy me a juice (fresh made.. mmmmm) and because im like the only foreigner who seems to buy there they actual gave (for free!!!) me a new kind of tea, yummy. So now I don’t know anymore, I should go back to my first opinion about Chinese, they are like girls, you cant understand them : )

For notice is my phone working again, whats going on with me, china and cellphones, they just dont want to work togheter.

Friday and Saturday there are going to be two Halloween partys, so i expect to bring up some nice photos :)

Bike tour !

Long time and no blogging, but mayby that just because after Yun nan the life here seems to be very ordinary. But actual its not, this weekend was great. A Friday with dinner and just relaxing after a loooooong schoolweek we where a bunch of guys that got together for have a bicycle tour around the island. We gathered at 9 in the morning and started to buy stuff for the tour, lot of fruit and of course beer.

We had a geniuse idea of getting ice from McDonalds and brought some buckets so we could have cold beer for the hole trip. It worked very well, and its nice to drive those four bicycles that looks like a car. Then you actual don’t have to worry about losing you´re balance. After the tour wich lasted about 8 hours we went for food. Well I have to admit that we didn’t make it around the island, but I think it was because the equipment wasn’t the best and we (read me : ) ) priority to drink beer and just enjoying the views. We went to some nice beaches and also had a great time. Some of our crew went tired after been out and drinking all day so they went home after dinner, but four of us joined the French guys (actual it was Jeremy and Virginity) to go to 123 bar. Because of Virginity, Liselot and Alaid is working there (sitting and drinking and just pretend they have fun) we got free drinks. AWSOME! I was also quite tired but we stayed a bit after 01.30 and then went home.

Yesterday I bought some running shoes, I hope they not will be fake and that I can use them when running the marathon. I don’t know if I wrote it before but in about 76 days there is a big marathon here in Xiamen, and I hope to be able to run it, almost 43 km, I also hope that I will be in a okay shape. So its time to start running for sure now!

Ohh, his back, his the man behind the...

Back to ordinary life now (more or less), and the school started with class on Friday and Saturday. Now you wonder why we had class on Saturday, but actual its not so strange (for be China), because of the holiday we missed some classes and have to catch up… Well yeah its strange, you get free days from school but you have to work on weekends.. so not so free actual

But its nice to be back, Friday Diedrek came back from Taiwan and he what he told me its much better then China. Like all the bad things about China (like pollutions, girls wearing pyamas on street, and sneakers with suites…) its not existing in Taiwan. Actual they are somewhat more civilizes then Chinese. It still was much more expensive but not so bad, only that he said that the beer where expensive. But he also said that the coffee was cheaper and that you actual could find good bread with cheese and that all together it means that the breakfast problem is solved. Nice, nice ! I also meet a guy who tipsed me about a Swedish company that he worked for that was on Taipei…

Well nice to be back. Saturday also was quite nice, I came up with the idea of filling a bucket with ice and put beer into it. Said and done me and Diederik did this and brought the bucket to the beach party, cheap beer and really coold :).

I also putting up some more photos from my treeking days, but this time its not mine, so now there actual is photos of me..

Fight Fight! And Dali

After been a short time in Shangri-la I finaly made it to Dali. When I arrived I made a mistake thinking that I was in old Dali, which according to my note I wouldn’t be. But after I realizeld that the old city was too new to be called old Dali I grabbed a taxi. Here I meet in my opinion the most stupid taxidriver. When I told him where I wanted to go he said that he wanted 40 kui, which can sound little but its quite lot here (haircut, lunch, dinner and lots of bear). About the taxi driver, when he was driving he would turn of the ignition when it was downhill. Many things that is hard to describe made quite angry at him, he also wanted to have pay to get back, because it was so far he said. 15 km is not so far, and when you can get about 20 km for about 15 kui you realize how overprized he was. He also refused to drive on taximeter. Well, when I knew where we where I said to him to drop me of (he did not knew even when he had talked with the people at the hostel), I grabed my bag and got out of the cab. I paid him half of the demanded sum, even if that was overprized I really did not feel to pay the way back when he was such a bad driver. I can also say that the Chinese taxidriver get paid even if they not drive. So all this money he got he just put in his own pocket….hate people that not are honest…

Dali is nice, nice place for hanging out and just chilling. Met two guys from England and we decided to go to the lake, ended up in a unforgettable drive whit the smallest bikes you can ride : ) Through a big ricefield and a dirty part of the city we finaly made it to the lake.

Yesterday I spent walking around and looking at souvenirs, although I don’t buy anything, just because its so much shit and I don’t like the idea if carry it for some more days… In the evening we all guys went out for some beer and barbecue, it was awesome, but the best thing was that we meet a bunch of Chinese girls that didn’t speak much English. I was the only one that knewed a little Chinese so I could show of a little… ok, mayby not but I did practice my Chinese : )

When I woke up today I decided to rest in my bed so long as I could, which means to about 11.00. And I also got some entertainment over my morning coffee. Two guys (one elder American and a other strange guy) had a big quarrel. The strange guy where accusing the American to kill civilian, and the amercian told him that he was a : bitch, insane, stupid, tiny, littly…. Well a lot of things, but actual it was quite strange to see two guys in that age behaving more like five years.. Although the American had right, he was just sitting there and the other guy just jumped on him.. well after about 40 minutes of shouting and so on the show ended up that the wiser guy (American) walked away, and my coffee was empty so the fun was over …

Well today I heading to Kunming, just for passing it and sleep there so I don’t miss my flight to Shenzhen.. visiting Henry for a day and then get back to University and reality (although it does not feel as been in China is reality ..)

Silly bike ride

3 days treeking, no shower and nice views :)

Now I have been to a very remote part of Yunnan province (actual quite remote in China if you only counting provincences we are allowed to go to). I went to a small village called Yunbencun, who is a tibetan village that nowdays almost provide themselves on tourist, but what I understood it just the last 5-10 years they have done that. The people can be the nicest people I meet, they actual helped you without thinking of taking money from you. I went there with a couple which I meet on my hostel in Feiling temple. They are very nice and its really easy to travel with them because they are very good to arrange things, actual it’s the first time I go and travel (except my perents) when I not have to think by myself so much. They are also really nice so there are two big benefits of this, well three if you count that they are better on Chinese then me, not so strange if they are from china….

To go to this village we first had to rent a car and go up and down for about a hour, and after that we had a 8 hour walk (usual it take about 5-6 but we were not in a hurry). I had been worried about that the hight would do that my condition would be our limit. But it was not! Actual I think I never got tired of our hole journey, well little but not that much. After walking we arrived at lower Yubencun and stayed there for a night. The views from the “balcony” was awesome, I spend over a hour just looking at it. There is some picture of it, it’s the ones where you have a lake and some small buildings and a mountain in the background.

Picture until lower Yubencun

After sleeping we wake up quite early to have breakfast and start walking to the “secret” waterfall, well it was not so secret because all people went there. But the views where quite nice, although I was a bit disappointed, so I walked faster and went on a detour, and went home hour earlier to sleep. The thing of the waterfall is some religious things, the people here have a own language and its not similar to anything else, all the small flags with different colors with text on it has the meaning of that the wind will carry the language away and everybody will now about it. So the locals go up there and running around the waterfall for good luck and healthy life and balbablabablba……

The second night we stayed at upper Yubencun, and it was even nicer than the lower. Here I also had my first real Chinese shit. Its when you sitting on you’re heels and shiting without holding in anything. I also had fried rice and egg to breakfast (I don’t like it but what the hell, I have to learn if im not going to be ruined(the bread and cheese is not a option, because its so expensive)). We also had a real hot pot, there are some picture of a fire and some food, awesome!

Waterfall and UpperYubencun

So after have spent two night I was´nt satisfield of the views, we had a long discussion about hurry to Shangri-la so I could make it to Tiger leaping Gorge, but when I heard about a dangerous longer road back I thought what the hell, I take that one instead. And after that Lee (Lee and Karry are the couple) had worried about my shoes and that it would be too dangerous (the Chinese are very caring, at the waterfall one guy said to me that I should be carefull about my cold, its very dangerous to have a cold…….. just coughing a little is NOT SO DANGEROUSE) . But after talking a little we agreed to go.

We started quite late because we did´nt want to hurry this because some parts are actual dangerous For real, some places you had only 10 cm to walk at, one side it was a trench with 20 cm of icecold water and the other side it was a cliff and about 100- 200 meter straight down… This part was about 5km and our guide forbid me to take any pictures, this because he wanted us to be focus on the walking. But I found a way so he accepted that I took picture, I sat down and when I was using my camera. Although I did not take as much picture as I would like because of the risk.. I also have Lees pictures so I have some cool shots… About cool shots, there where two guys that died last year because they wanted to take some cool shots, and they fell in the river. They actual fell into the river at one of the safest places, just of lacking of respect of the nature…
Dangerous walk

And after the Dangerous walk our guide left us for the safe road back. But what he did not mention was that the road where same… so not so safe… And talking about the road back… with the car.. lucky that I was so blunted (swe = avtrubbad ) that I did not cared…
Not dangerous
Also some pictures from Deqin (the city you just passing to go to Feilai temple or Yubencun) and the road back to Shangri-la.
Safe road back

Deqin and Feitai

Okay, now im arrived in Deqin, or well I arrived there went ripped off over a meal (rice and some pork, it was good but it should not cost 23 kui), and took a taxi from that place. Found a nice hostel and some persons which im going for a three day haik : ) (Now mom and dad will be happy that im not alone). At the moment I don’t feel almost anything from the hight (its about 4200m here) but little headache but its common I heard. And its also much harder to walk in stairs, but its worth it.

A lot of friendly people at this hostel, a family from Singapore asked me to tried Tibetan butter tea, strange taste, but I think its good as breakfast, just because there have a lot of carbons … . The views at the bus from Shangri-la to Deqin was even nicer then from Kunming to Shangri-la. The road was okay, but the safety was Chinese. With that meaning that it was no fences…. Also interesting that in every bus stop we stopped for going to the bathroom we had to pay about 0.5 to 1 kui. The toilets is not so nice (like very dirty and disgusting) , so it´s you actual is not paying for a clean toilet. I thought a rather pied outside id, but the old man still demanded money. I paid just because I did not have the time to argue.. (There is a photo on him, so I will put it up somewhere where I will have my list over Chinese people that I don’t like … )

They also have real coffee her (bryggkaffe, home smashed beans..) , looking forward to the breakfast tomorrow. Although it’s a problem that its still expensive, but it´ts free refill so I might take a third cup now..
What you where saying Johan I also think its different taste if the dog size is different.. Also nice that you are making comments : ) . Congrats to my brother also who is keeping his job.

Busride views from My hostel

måndag 28 september 2009

Nice views :)

Okay, i started my travell in yun nan. My first mistake was to stay over the night in Kunming, but i tried dog so maybye that woas worth it.

I took the nightbus from Kun ming to Shangri-la, and the nightbus is okay her in china. This of course if you are not taller then 170, wich im not :) Bumpy road and nice company by a girl from hunan (but worked in the shity place guangzhou) made me not sleep so much. But hey ! I have practise chinese :). Mayby i dont have to mention that the bus was about 2.5 hour late, because we started later and i also think we got a flat tire during the night ...

The last hours of the busride was awsome, great views and so on. So now im really excited about the busride tomorrow to Daqin.

Nice to have dinner with chinese.. .then you dont have to pay anything , thanks Li Yan.

Kunming

Sometimes you meet things that you would not expect, like yesterday I went out for some food with a Chinese girl. And at one place I understood that by the characheters that they had chicken and rice. But the boss there where also cutting up some slices of meat. When she said what it was I first hesitated but after some thinking I made up my mind to try it. It was really good, much better than expected. Now all dog lovers going to hate me, but actual dog is tasting good and I will try again if I get opportunity: ). I also had a good coffee yesterday, it was with sugar that we in Sweden call “bitsocker”, but those guys where heating up the spoon so the sugar melted and dripped down in the cup.

Also have some pictures, so for those who want they can have a look.
Dog and Coffee

This morning I woke up by my alarm at 6.00 in the morning. I had put it so early because of I thought of going to the stone forest (its like a forest that are made of stone), but I reconsider this in my bed and went back to sleep. Its seems to be too expensive and I also had to catch up some homework and also some sleep, Friday night I just sleep 2 hours..

Today at hostel I meet two Swedish guys that had been to Dequin, and they loved it. So it going to be nice, really looking forward to it :)

On way to Kunming

At the moment its 6.29 and im sitting at Xiamen Airport, I will go to Yunnan province over the holiday we have now, for about 10 days and after that go to Shenzhen. In Shenzhen I will visit a friend for only a like two days. A friend in Sweden where telling me that she didn´t like to talk in front of the class when practicing a new language, feel good to hear that I´m not alone with that. Actual a quite interesting thing happened for a couple a days ago. We were supposed to have about 10 minutes alone with our teacher, just so she could check our pronunciation. But it turned out that many of my classmates still where in the classroom when she where checking us. Some of them where actual sitting a half meter from the teacher and also repeated what the guy that she where checking where doing. Strange… So I talked with a Canadien girl and she said that she really did dislike it and also thought it was strange that the other people in class didn’t leave the room and gave us some space.

Well when it was my turn I ask my classmates to leave the room (actual I could do it when they where there but I didn’t want to..) , so what happened ? did they leave?
NO, they didn’t want to leave, so then I said to my teacher that then I would not do it, Its not that I really had to do it and also I thought it was really bad of my classmates not leave, but it turned out quite good. Me and my teacher went to another classroom, and the Canadian girl where also happy, because now she also could do it with nobody disturbing. Strange that those people didn’t moved, I blame some culture differences, but actual I just think those guys where strange…

Thursday I also when to school a half hour earlier to school, just to be able to finish my homework before class, so the time was about 7.30 when I passed the running track, and then I saw something that you don’t see so often. Old ladies (70-80 years) doing tai chi with swords, I will go there some other time and catch them on some photos. Its also nice to see the monks playing basketball, or talking In cellphone. Well china never stops to be interesting ..

Yesterday I also went to my first Kung Fu class, very nice! Really good workout, and I also think its especial good for my stiff muscles (well I still hope I got some.. ) . And of course I forgot my camera when I went there, but I will go more so..

Whats wrong with Chinese airports, so expensive, actual its more expensive than in Sweden. I was thinking of having a luxury breakfast with sandwich and coffee.. but with a total price of 100 kui I quickly changed my mind, I mean its like what I am spending in two days…

Well some photos from Justins birthday dinner (bought her a Absolute Vodka and a teddybear .. ). Also some random pictures

Sorry Johan… so fucking right there ! “Skämmes ta mä fan” My blog starting to be one of those that only updating once a year… well I bether shape up. I heard that the link to the gulangu photos did not work, so I will repost it. Don’t miss the Chinese tourist with umbrellas, always hilerius.
So we where supposed to not have any water last weekend, well I never had so much water. Because afraid of not be able to flush my toilet I had saved water for that. And I turned out the warning that was sent from the government just where so people would go crazy… Well some did not have water all the time.. Fun for those guys that flew the island because of this and missed a great beachparty : )
After about 21.00 they have barbecue beside my apartment, you can go there and eat crazy much and in the end maybye pay 15-20 kui… So I have done that to much lately, and my running has been down, but I should be able to take it up again, its only 2.5 month when Xiamen marathon is.. So if I want to run there I really have to shape up, and the weather is also little bit cooler now I actual don’t have an excuse anymore.

On Saturday I have booked a 2.5 hour flight ticket to Yun nan province, its going to be great. The views there are told to be really something so its going to be nice. It also one of the parts in china I don’t have been to. I can go there because we have a 8 days holiday, and I also skipping three days class. I will also have time to go to Shenzhen to visit a friend there, Awsome!

I also have to write a little about the “free days” we get. Actual in china you don’t actual get free days, what they do is that you work on the weekends before so actual you just moving some days when you supposed to be free (like Saturday and Sunday) and put them when Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Maybye you get one day for free but… The whole class where laughing at me when I asked our teacher wich Sunday and Saturday we where supposed to go to school, because of this vacation… After they were not laughing..

I think I also started get to know how to study bether, its very different to study language .. was long time agoi I did that.
I never thought I would say this, but I missing the cheap coffee in “Baljan”, really have to go to big supermarket and by me a coffee machine…

Ohh, some friends have started to work in a club, because they are foreign girls they get pay to go to the club 3 houre x 3 times a week and standing at a table and have fun, for that they get free drinks and don’t have any obligations, all this for a salary 2000 kui a month. Good for me that I can go there and drink there liquer, don’t have to buy anything : )

I wil be bether to take my camera with me, but there will be nice photos from Yun nan !

A weekend without water ?

Hi, today its friday and in a couple of houre we wount have any water (or limited) at the island, bacause of they are changing a major pip that deliviering fresh water to Xiamen island. Quite strange, but the locals also think so... Well see how its going to work with toilets and stuff..

The supermarket was fast to put away all big containers with drinking water, now is the biggest 1.5 liter... gah, just so they can rip us of for a few bucks more. Many of we students are leaving the city due this, i thought it would be more intresting to so how its going to be, so i stay :) And then i also be able to go to the beach party.. .i hope this one is a real one, but actually it arranged by foriegners so it should be good.

Today my plan was to have done all homework and go to the class and handle it in, and also attend to my first Kung Fu class. But a very good dinner yesterday made me not to finished my homework, and the food made a kickback tonight so after spending a lot of time running to the toilett in the night i decided not to go to school today. Think it was a good decision with the fact that we only have chinese toilets there and its not so nice to shit diarria in those... (Chinese toilett is just a hole in the ground). But now after i have eating some KFC food im ready to go for dinner and i might have a beer today :) (again, acutal they have some imported beer in my local supermarket, expensive but sometimes it worth pay 25 kui to get a Ale from england).

our teacher really have kicked in a higher gear now, maybye its good, because as usual if you dont have to do something you dont really do it..

Sorry, no pictures today, but i hope it will after tomorrow or sunday :) Good to hear that its not a waste to write here :)

Take care in Sweden (by the way, nobody in my oralclass understod me when i tried to order a beer, beacuse the brand i wanted was Norrlandsguld.. gah, how hard can it be)

Gulang Gu

Starting with beer and barbecue we kicked off the weekend Friday at 18, after that there where some germans that had a party at home. So we went there, the apartment where totally new and they had a view that you would pay millions for if it was in Europe or similar country. He and his girlfriend did not paid millions, only 3000 kui per month… Althought it was quite far away from campus, but still real nice, with the view over Gulang Gu. After this we went out to a club that had a grand opening, me and Diederik and Yerkin did not stayed so long, because we planned to go to Gulang Gu in the morning. And we did, well not Yerkin that did what he likes most… sleep.. Gulang Gu is a island that have some history about the dutch, Taiwanese and Chinese, but I will not have a lecture here, intresting can search at internet : ) . We did some real sighseen and i´m uploading some pictures of this. As usual the best of going to tourist places in china is to watch the Chinese tourist, they walking around with there umbrellas in big sightseen group and taking photos(Notice the clear sky but although all umbrellas at some of the pictures). And some of them also get lucky to take a picture of a foreigner, this time it was a bunch of elder men that took a group photo with me and Diederik..
Its not usual that you get back to much money, especial in china, but something happened when I bought two bottles of water at a hostel at the island. It was extremely hot and I think the girl just was a little to unconcentrated, because when I gave her a hundred to pay 4 kui she gave me 126 back.. Although she recounted it like 4 times, well I counted it myself afterwards and went back with the money.. 30 kui was almost what a bed in a four dormetry costed…
After have spent the hole day at the island I went home to catch for some sleep, just so I could have some energy for the evening. Me and some guys took the bus to the nightmarket at Zhongzhan road for some barbecue and beer. Me and Diederik had found one place there that sold draft beer in 5 l barrels. So we started to buy one (cost was 30 kui) but we where a quite big group so it went out quite fast. After some French people also came we just had to have one more. The French convinced us to go to the beach .
Still have not found a way to run, there are not really any places to run that are good, usual its to crowded or it is to much stairs and roads to pass. So the only real thing to do is go to the running track, and run about 20 laps…. Not so fun, and its still so hot, although it should be good tonight when it have rained.
Haha, Carl Bildt is at the moment in CCTV9. Nice that all commercial here are showing that china is growing and moving forward, very optimistic propaganda : )..
There is much that happened all days, usual I forget the things because its so much, is there anything you guys wounder about just post a comment and I answer it as fast I can.

Beautiful country, telephone guy ,swineflu and dumplings

Why is Sweden such a beautiful country ? Today I spoked with a new guy and girl that where new in our class and when I said that I was from Sweden they not so surprisingly says “Ohh, I think Sweden is such a nice country”. Many time when I meet people from asian country the loads of the time express them like that, all thought they never have been there. Of course its very polite and so but sometimes you just wonder where they got that idea from (not said that Sweden is´nt a bad place).

We also have a telephone guy in our class, with that I mean he has a phone, and actual want us all to notice that. And I really think that all in our class notice that the first time he didn’t switch of the sound, but the second and third time yesterday in a range of like 15 minutes we all thought about kicking him out. I think he just don´t understand why he should put the phone into silence mode. Today was no exception, even that our teacher had said that all should keep the phone off or silence. The thing would not mather so much if we all just sat down and did our things for us self, but now its when the teacher having lectures. Well enough about this.
Started oral speaking class today, its one of the two optional courses that I´m going to take (have´nt decided about caligrafi or kung fu). We are having a really funnie (NOT!) guy in our class that are playing smart guy and ask question all the time (not so smart question even if he think so). Me and Yerkin (Kazakstan guy) where quite sick of him after half of the class. Guess nationality ? All USA of course, some of them is just to much…..

Was also catching this thing about sleeping, even if Chinese can work hard and study hard they also have the ability to sleep everywhere. I really have a hard time to sleep in public, those have not! She just took a half hour nap, well I could not do that.

Today we had to fill in a form about questions about the flue, like they asked if we had any caught or fever. Or if we had been in contact of any with this things... Of course the right answer was NO, even if I have had a caught and now two guys that have fever.. So they also have started to check that it is only people that have permission to enter the campus that really do that. In this case its teacher, students and older people. Older people can go in because its parks in the campus and all parks are free for older people so they have a place to hang out. Hehe, one guy had forgott his student ID so he could not come in, and he got really upset about this, loads of curses in both Chinese and english.

We have also found a nice dumpling place where you can eat a lunch for about five kui. The problem is that they not really have any menu, so I will practice my chinese so I can order some other dishes :)

The days pictures

So now its friday and barbecue and beer, actual I found stout so i will try that one at home before I go to the barbecue, altoughte I don´t have so high expectations...

Reflections

Some reflections over what have happend the last weeks. The opening ceremony was quite interesting, it started that somebody talked in about 10 minutes to all foreigners in Chinese(this due that most of us don´t speak so much Chinese, this is one major reason why we came her…). But after that a other guy came up and welcomed us. And surprisingly after about a half hour in the room, which felt very long when it was about 35 Celsius in the room, a police women came up and spoke very long about regulations and laws…. Typical china many laws and regulation, although not so many follows them, the most interesting regulation was that we should not swim in the ocean. When he said that all western guys started to whispering , this made the police women repeat it all over again. And the guy after the police women also repeated this “don´t swim in the ocean, its very dangerous”.
The classes is also very different compared to what I´m used to, here we are pronouncing the words all together which making me feel that I´m back in the first grade when practice English. Although I think its good for me to get the right tones in the beginning, it feels that I also should learn some more words so I can understand what the restaurant people are gagling about when I try to order food.

As I meantion before there is not going to be much food made in my kitchen, but its still nice to have one, because now I can make “Palt” and other things that I soon will miss…

They say the traffic in china is horrible, but even if they uses all carlanes when they drive its actual goes so slow that I never seen the speed goes faster then 80km/h.

Now I will go and play some football, but I also uploading some picture from our listening class. She was asking what we had done this weekend and most of us had went to this so called beach party, and she said that next time we went out we should take her with us, when is that happend in Sweden, that the teacher invite herself/himself to a party ?

Party Weekend!

This weekend have been all about party! At first me, Joe (american), Diedirik (Dutch) and Yerkin (Kazakstan) went out for some beer and barbeque and after go to some nightclub. There are many clubs here in Xiamen, but the problem is to know where to go to. There are many "china-style" clubs with only tables and loud music and no dancfloor. Those are not so good usually but are for people that have´nt tried them a experience. We when in there but realized that a beer was 40 kui and water 10.. Quite far from our budget, altought its luckey there is supermarket outside so you can go outside and have a beer. They also had barbeque so I think I eat at least four times that evening :)

Yesterday there where a supposed beach party, in the begining it was a real disappointment, because of the lack of people and the fact that it was in a resturant. As I understod they had´nt the goverments permission to be at the beach, this due it going to be a big exhibition this week so they want the beach to be clean.

After a while people in the resturant started move from the table and when to the big dancefloor, not dancing , just standing and look at the stage. Some guys started dance but me and Diedirek decided to go outside for some beer. We bought some and took them into the resturant and just played cool. There where no reaction from the staff so we did this the hole time :) Altought the beer was´nt so expensive it was cheaper this way. The party really took off after a while, missfortune there where some breakdancer stealing the hole dance floors attantion for a while. We all got bored to see them dance so we moved a little bit from them and started dance, awsome!

Oh, actuall we meet our first racist chinese guy here in Xiamen. It was at friday night a real drunk guy said to us to fuck off and go home. I just said heard some chinese afterwards he said those worlds so I did´nt realy understood why he said it, but I still wanted to reply something so I said to him in chinese "so you can speak a little english" and afterwards just turned my back from him and walk away.

I have some photos from the beachparty, and also some from Diedireks balkony wich is awsome!!

DinnerParty, lost cellphone and first day at school

The day after yesterday we where a bunch of guys that went out for some food and beer, just for celibrating that we had done the health check. It was awsome, we where totally 15 persons that where eating and drinking. The food was awsome and I think we where at the resturante at least for three houres. We drank loads of beer and I almost fell of my chair when I would pay, 27 kai!!! (For you guys that don´t know what a kui is it about 1kui = 1.05 SEK).

After that we where heading for the french guys apartment (a big one only about 100m from the beach) for continue the party. After a very dizzy night I ended waking up in my apartment without a cellphone, gah! Not again, its the third time I visiting China and this is the third time I lose it or break it. It never happends in Sweden.

I bought a new one, 320 kui, a okey Nokia :) A great one compared to my old, this has camera and all this new things as MMS and stuff.

Campus Tour and Health Exam

For two days me and dutch girl, chinese gilr and a chines guy went out for some barbecue, shitloads of meat and beer for about 25 kui!!!

Yesterday all Chinese Language student went for a Campus tour. The tour was'nt so good but it was nice so all people that will study mandarin. We are a bunch of zero level students, so it feel good that don´t be the only stupid guy. After the tour we and some other guys went to a dutch guys apartment to drink a beer and sit on his balkony. It was really nice and after we had finished that beer we went for some food. We order loads of Korean food and had two beer each, for only 30 kui! :)

We all went home early because today we had a health exam that didn't allowed us to eat or drink anything after 21.00.

The health exam went quite easy, it only took about 3 hours and I got lucky to go to the hospital with the first bus. Because the people that arrived with the second bus hade much longer queues.

At the campus tour I also heard chinese girl speak about south Sweden, i got curious and started listning. After a while I just had to ask: "Vart i Från Sverige kommer du", we both started laughing and it turned out she was here with her boyfriend and both of them will study mandarin. It was quite nice to have some swedes here just so I don´t forgett my swedish. After a while on the campus tour Fanny (the swedish girl) got a phone call, and it turned out that it was another swede here. So now we are four :), altought I had'nt expected anyone its quite cool that have some.

My Apartment

Much to do, and sometime nothing :)

Hi!
At the moment im writing this in a world document because i cant access my blog. This because of the Chinese government is blocking all blog at the site I’m using. So when I get the time I will figure out how a WPN tunnel or what its called work. So then I access facebook, youtube and other “importing” sites.

The trip went quite smooth, just that after I arrived at Pudong Airport(Shanghai No.1 airport) I was supposed to go to the other airport. I knew that it was quite far away so that’s why I had about 8 hours to get there. What I didn’t knew was that I would have to take one train, one subway (and had to pass through whole Shanghai) and in the end a cab. But with my orientation skills it was no bigger problems. After eating a delicious meal for 10 Kuai I arrived at Hongqoiun (or something like that) Airport I saw that almost all flight where delayed, but not mine !. So I was quite optimistic and believed that I would have some luck, hahaha! So when it was 10 minutes left when we should have lifted the delay sign turn blue (not red as in Sweden). I think I was totally one hour late to Xiamen, I had feard that my airport pickup would not be there (I have some problem trusting Chinese to keeping time) so I grabbed a cab and went to University. After arriving at the campus I was astonished how big it was, like 10 time bigger than Linköping (at least). Nether less it was not hard to get around and it was also quite nice that I meet a Spanish guy that spoke mandarin that showed me hotel where I have stayed for two nights.

Today I was supposed to pay for my apartment, but I have some money issues. Here in China you don’t pay with card, only cash. For example I was supposed to pay the tuition fee at the bank before I could the registration. I went there and the cashier in the bank telling me that I have to go to a ATM to take out money and then pay in cash  . OK, I think I can do that, so far so good. Realizing that maximum amount per time is 2500 and I’m supposed to get out 16 000(also note that the biggest bill is 100, so it turn out to a really big bunch of money ).

So I didn’t think so much about this until today, when I was supposed to take out more money to pay 4 rents to my new apartment  (one month in deposite and then you pay three in advance), then my bank in Sweden say stop!. Damn what now? Yeah it turns out that the maximum amount of money you can take out from a ATM is 20 000 SEK, and now I had exceed that. So at the moment I cant sign the contract but they will let me move in. I think they doing really good business at we foreigners, because everything that we like (like coffee) is really overprised, for this cup of coffee I drinking now is costing me 15 kui and then its with student discount..

I have taken some picture, not so excited one but some are in my apartment (I think I have to clean it little bit in some days, Johan ? are you in mood for some more cleaning :)). It’s 1500 kui per month but adding internet for 100 and electricity and water it might in the end stop at 1700-1800. But its cheaper then my old one in Linköping :).

Funnie thing when I got my Chinese cell-phone number, they told me that I needed one fast. I was thinking damn, then I have to find a store that sells that, nonono just walking five meters outside the Office building (where they told me to get a Chinese number ) a girl standing there and selling me a number. Fine ! But then she starting to gaging about I have to pay 20 kui per month in 24 month, nono I start thinking. But that was a misunderstanding, I get 20 kui per month to call for every month if I will call for at least 40 kui. NICE deal! No problem to do that :)
